Shopping for a Diamond Ring? Here are Some Cash Saving Tips

20th December - Submitted by Fine Jewelry

If you are someone who is shopping for a diamond engagement ring, a proposal to your special someone must be on the horizon.  First things first – Congrats!  Getting engaged is an exciting time in anyone’s live and is a moment that every girl has dreamed of since she was a young girl.

Now, on to the important part – hunting for a diamond ring!  For many guys, this is the hardest part of getting engaged.  Everyone knows that a diamond is a girl’s best friend!  Obviously,The problem is that most guys have never shopped for a diamond so they aren’t sure of what to look for.

It’s normal to get a little intimidated when you first enter a jewelry store.  You see all these shiny diamonds and some very big pricetags!  It’s no mystery that the jewelry store employee is most likely going to present to you the most expensive diamonds first!

Don’t panic!  Trust me, you will find a gorgeous diamond ring at a fantastic price.  Don’t pay attention to the first prices that are presented to you in the shops – these prices are NOT what you will pay.  There’s plenty of bargaining room and more importantly, you can look for certain things in a diamond so you get the biggest value your buck.

The key to shopping for an engagement ring is to get educated about how diamonds are graded.  Find a good diamond buying guide to help you out here.  Understand the “4 C’s” and how the labs grade diamonds.

Once you do this, you will also know what is considered when pricing a diamond.  From there, you can decide which grading characteristics are most important to you in purchasing a diamond.

Decide the amount you want to spend, and try to stay in that pricerange.  You can get a bigger diamond just by dropping down a grade in one of the other grading characteristics.  As an example, by going from a “F” color diamond down to an “I”, you can save huge dollars or be able to bump up the size of the diamond by a good amount.

Best of luck during this exciting time!
